Magnificent small candlestick (or candlestick dish) in glazed terracotta from the Mid-Century period (1950s), created by the ceramicist Gabrielle Mackiewicz. A collector's piece with a very distinctive style, featuring a hand-painted geometric and botanical design (shades of green, powder pink, and black outlines on a natural earth background). Gabrielle Mackiewicz (1928-2019) is a recognised ceramic artist. She trained in Vallauris with two major figures in French ceramics: Roger Capron and Gilbert Portanier. This piece showcases the influence and craftsmanship of these great masters. Slight wear consistent with age and use. A superb piece of folk art and vintage design, ideal for complementing a collection of Vallauris ceramics.
