Magnificent Neo-Gothic style buffet (Historicist period / Troubadour style) from the late 19th century or very early 20th century, entirely made of carved solid oak. This piece of cabinetry brilliantly and elegantly incorporates all the major aesthetic codes of the flamboyant Middle Ages. The doors and panels are adorned with window motifs, geometric rosettes, and precisely crafted archways. The central panel features a beautifully sculpted Virgin and Child in bas-relief under an architectural canopy. The buffet retains its original wrought iron fittings, hinges, latches, and locks, which perfectly complement its medieval appearance. Robustly made to high quality, with traditional mortise and tenon joinery. A playful nod typical of the practices of antique dealers or cabinetmakers of the time to "dream" buyers: the piece bears an engraved monogram on the back accompanied by the date 1407. While the piece is indeed a 19th-century creation inspired by the Middle Ages (as evidenced by its excellent state of preservation and craftsmanship), this "false period date" adds a touch of soul and a delightful story to tell! In generally good condition for its age. The oak is sound, dense, and has a beautiful patina. The structure is perfectly stable, and the carvings are very well preserved. Note: The middle interior shelf is damaged and has a hole in the board (invisible when the piece is closed). This does not affect the overall sturdiness of the buffet and can be easily restored or concealed in use. The price reflects this.
