Large ceramic lamp from Clamecy signed by Roger Colas, 1960s. Synthetic fabric lampshade in the shape of a bell flower, with cut sides topped with amber glass pendants. Roger Colas (1907–1993) was a French ceramist and faïencier, born in Dornecy, near Clamecy. Self-taught, he learned porcelain decoration techniques from a former Sèvres decorator who had retired to Dornecy. He began his career at the Duquénelle faïencerie in Clamecy around 1925, then took over the management of the factory in 1937. During World War II, he was mobilised, captured in Germany, and his wife Fernande took over the leadership of the company. Roger Colas is known for his creative talent: he designed almost all the shapes, models, and moulds of the Clamecy faïencerie, laying the foundations for a family know-how that endures. He is also the father of the famous sailor Alain Colas. In 1972, he passed the management to his son Jean-François, who continued and modernised the business, notably by introducing the production of fèves for galettes des rois in the 1980s. Total height 67.5 cm. Lampshade diameter 40 cm.
