Large amphora vase with two handles by Roger Guérin (1896–1954), a major figure in Bouffioulx stoneware, Belgium. In this Walloon pottery village near Charleroi, Guérin introduced traditional salt-glazed stoneware into the world of Art Deco decorative arts. The shape is classic: an ovoid body on a ribbed foot, a deeply flared neck, a thick lip, and two robust handles glazed in a shiny black with brown reflections, slowly flowing over the shoulder. The body features Guérin's characteristic flamed glaze: olive green, sand, ochre, and rusty brown, interspersed with white, frosted salt crystallizations. Each side presents a different landscape. The decoration is applied by hand: two large relief medallions with opposing scrolls and a central flower on the main faces, and four smaller medallions around the base, enhanced with a shiny rust-brown glaze. Signed at the tip under the base "Guérin" and numbered "M38.".
