Baluster vase with two handles in flamed stoneware, signed Gilbert Méténier, Gannat, Allier. Art Deco period, 1920s to 1930s. Decoration achieved by the technique of flamed stoneware: blue glaze applied to the upper part, which melts at high temperature and runs down in streaks over a ochre-mustard background where the raw stoneware remains visible. This deep blue is known as Gannat blue. Unglazed base bearing the signature G. Méténier, incised with a point in the raw clay before firing, along with the large characteristic monogram of the workshop. Height nineteen centimetres. Perfect condition, no chips, no cracks, no restoration. Gilbert Méténier, 1876 to 1957, son of the potter Louis Méténier, took over the family workshop in Gannat in 1920. In 1940, he destroyed all of his moulds to prevent them from falling into the hands of the occupier: no reproductions are therefore possible, and any piece signed from this period is authentic. Professional packaging with bubble wrap and expanding foam.
