This 19th century interior scene is beautifully crafted and was painted by E. Picou. There are signs of wear on the frame and some moisture in the margins; the watercolor is in good condition. E. Picou for Eugènes Charles Picou, a painter born in 1831 in Nantes, inspired by the works of Alexandre Cabanel and also influenced by Jean-Léon Gérome in the creation of his style. His brother Henri-Pierre Picou won the 2nd Prix de Rome in 1853, and his teacher, Debret, was a student of Jacques-Louis David. He achieved a slight renown during his lifetime at the Salon des Artistes Français. Most of his works in public collections are exhibited at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nantes, his hometown.
