Louis XIII salt chair

Small louis XIII chair, with salt chest from the 1800s. Used to store salt, a precious commodity and usually kept by the eldest member of the household who sat there. For storage protected from humidity, the wooden chest, placed near the fireplace, is the most suitable container. Hence the idea of creating a chest that will act as a chair. Legend has it that this chair was assigned to the grandmother who, with her long dress of the time, completely hid the chest part. The gabelou, or customs officer of the time, no doubt out of gallantry, did not disturb the grandmother, thus neglecting the control of this furniture.
