Rosewood shelf 1960 poul codivius royal system. In good condition. Poul cadovius (1911 – 2011) Poul cadovius is a danish architect, designer and furniture publisher. He is known to be probably the inventor of modular systems. From the beginning of his career and throughout his life, he wanted to design furniture that offered infinite possibilities of combinations and adaptable to all types of rooms. From this desire, was born in 1944 one of his most remarkable and mythical pieces: the royal system. These modular shelves are still a reference in the world of design. Biography. Poul cadovius was born in 1911 in denmark. He studied to be a saddler and upholsterer. He then became interested in designer furniture and in particular in modular wall systems. He wants to design furniture that fits perfectly into all types of interiors. He then designed several collections of modular shelves whose number of possible combinations is impressive. Subsequently, he pursued this desire to create functional furniture and designed kit pieces. He decides to buy the company france & son that will become cado, for which he and other designers will design many pieces. Cadovius is considered one of the great designers of the twentieth century by its innovative approach to modular shelves and kit furniture.
