Model 36 lounge chair, also known as pernilla, by bruno mathsson (1907 - 1988 värnamo, sweden) The model 36, also known as pernilla, was the first chair designed by bruno mathsson solely for relaxation. In 1936, at the Röhsska Museum, Bruno Mathsson exhibited the results of his experiments on the development of three basic types of chairs using laminated beech frames to support woven hemp webbing: the task chair, the easy chair and the chair long model 36. In the spring of 1934, bruno mathsson had discovered a new casein type glue (based on phosphoproteins) which did not require heat but only the application of pressure to ensure a sufficiently strong bond. It was this discovery that led Mathsson to experiment with using laminated beech to build frames strong enough to hold the woven hemp at the angle he deemed necessary to provide good ergonomic support. It was this innovation that led to the development of the three basic chairs on display at the Röhsska Museum. The model on sale dates from the 50s/60s. Its soft, sinuous organic lines scrupulously follow the shapes of the body (organic design). Structure in laminated, curved beech, covered with black faux fur, headrest cushion held to the chair by two leather straps (restored). Bears the firma karl mathsson varnamo stamp on the rear crossmember. H max: 84 cm, seat h: 32 cm, l: 167 cm, width: 52.5 cm.
