A simple composition with a strikingly modernist ethos. Here the landscape has been reduced down to basic colour and paint markings. The artist is clearly not trying to mimic real life, and has chosen instead draw attention to the fact that this is his own rendition of the elements of the landscape. There is a distinct rawness to the painting – the artist has not hidden the strokes of the paint brush, or the background of the substrate he is working on, nor has he masked the way in which he has rendered the rocks and trees with his cross hatching technique.
