Bust of Saint John afflicted. Polychrome, 18th century.

Solid wood and period polychrome, this afflicted bust of saint john dates from the 18th century. Apart from slight wear on the tunic and minimal color changes to the tunic, it has been extremely well preserved. We note the finesse of the work, the depth of the expression which oscillates between melancholy and sadness, as well as the movement of the hair. Placed on a piece of furniture, it gives the impression of becoming one with it and has a surprising presence. The coloring is also particularly successful, both on the cheeks, the lips and the outfit enhanced with gold. An exceptional object.
