Mauger Biscuit Christ Religious Statue

This very beautiful statue of christ in biscuit (unglazed porcelain fired twice) has many advantages: the hollow stamp underneath leaves no room for doubt, it is a biscuit created by mauger henri, the m&p stamp referring to mauger henri and his associate pezé. Mauger henri was the son of pierre-henri mauger, the founder of the company with louis-xavier letu in 1863 on isle of adam. The company made porcelain doll heads for huret, but is best known for making religious bisque statues for around 30 years. We can therefore date this statue to between 1863 and 1890 (see similar but smaller statue, kept at the isle d'adam museum). The company's stamp was successively m&l (or l&m), then m&f for mauger et fils, then m&p for mauger et pezé. I will therefore date this statue rather to the end of the period mentioned above. Its second advantage is that this statue is larger than the ones that can sometimes be found, it measures 27.5 cm in height with its nicely worked pedestal. And finally, it is in very good condition! No cracks, no chips, not even a chip! Just two or three small spots on the hair at the back and a few small original cracks. All these elements make it a rarity! Some mysteries remain: the number 26 at the back of the pedestal, the l stamp framed below and another small indecipherable stamp. I dusted it off then cleaned it with soapy water with a soft brush and dried it very quickly with a cloth. It measures 27.5 cm high, 10.5 cm wide and 10 cm deep at the pedestal.
