Aldo van den Nieuwelaar Globe lamp. Early table lamp for Domani Design from the 1960s with a matte opaline glass globe resting on a slender base of black lacquered tubular metal. When lit, the globe spreads a soft and even light. The lamp was designed in 1967 by Aldo van den Nieuwelaar for Domani Design in Amsterdam and is considered his first design, created before he opened his own studio in 1969. The Globe model was sold through Metz & Co in Amsterdam and The Hague and was available in different colours and sizes; this example is the rare black version measuring 58 cm in height with an opaline glass globe of 35 cm. The construction consists of black lacquered tubular metal with a matte opaline glass globe. The globe still bears an original Peill & Putzler label, the German glass manufacturer that also produced globes for companies such as Raak Amsterdam. The condition of the lamp is good, with light signs of use consistent with age and use.
