Scandinavian design console or sideboard in blond mahogany. Model 648 by designer josef frank. Period model!!! (this is not a current reissue that can be found at svensk tenn where there is a pyrography signature). The “library table” has a strict and timeless shape with slightly raised edges. Josef frank probably took inspiration from china and japan for this work. The table is particularly suitable for magazines and books, which is why it was called library table. Josef frank grew up in vienna and studied architecture at the konstgewerbeschule. In the 1920s he designed housing estates and large residential buildings built around shared courtyards in a vienna facing a severe housing shortage. In 1925 he founded the interior agency haus & garten with his fellow architects oskar wlach and walther sobotka. Svenskt tenn hired josef frank in 1934 and a few years later he and estrid ericson made their international breakthrough. Although he was already 50 years old when he left the nascent nazism in vienna for sweden, frank is considered one of the most important swedish designers.
