Low antique pine sideboard, traditional Chinese furniture from Shanxi, dated around 1920. Originating from Shanxi in northern China, from the early 20th century, where the local pine was crafted using traditional mortise and tenon joinery without nails, featuring framed panel fronts and exposed feet. In northern Chinese homes, horizontal sideboards served as everyday storage furniture and a surface for support in the main room. Its medium scale and ornamental simplicity distinguish it from more heavily carved versions and align it with the straightforward construction language of provincial furniture. Constructed from solid pine using traditional mortise and tenon joinery, without nails. The front features five parallel doors with circular iron handles, each designed as a hollow panel with a simple moulded frame. The sides follow the same design language. The piece rests on four exposed square-section feet.
