Ancient bust of Pope Pius IX in carved alabaster – 19th century

Elegant antique bust of Pope Pius IX (1792–1878), sculpted in ivory alabaster in Italy in the second half of the 19th century. Beautiful representation of the pontiff wearing his zucchetto and richly sculpted liturgical ornaments featuring floral motifs and tasselled cords. Delicately modelled face with a gentle and serene expression. Circular base and original sealing. Very good overall condition, slight signs of age, no restoration observed. Not signed. Dimensions: H 24.5 × W 17 × D 12 cm. Weight: 3.45 kg. An antique sculpture of character, ideal for a cabinet of curiosities or a collector's interior.
