VICTOR VERMARE (Sarcey 1842 - Lyon 1890) Bust of a woman wearing a feathered hat. 1883. Terracotta. H. 56 cm. Signed, dated, and located: Vermare / Victor / 1883 / Paris. Born in Sarcey, located about 40 km northwest of Lyon, Victor Vermare studied with Joseph Fabisch at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon. In the 1880s, he split his time between Paris and Lyon. He specialised in fancy heads in the style of Carpeaux, placing particular emphasis on the detailed, almost trompe-l'œil, rendering of fabrics and fashion.
