We are delighted to offer this very beautiful and highly collectible Howard & Son revolving bookcase from Berner Street. I have never seen a piece of this type made by Howard before. It is a mid-Victorian piece from around 1870, made of mahogany, based on a Regency design. This piece is a true fine English furniture item, intended for connoisseurs. The table bears the wonderful original Howard label inside, as well as a stamp at the base reading Howard & Son's Berners Street and another with the order number. The castors are also stamped Howard and Son's, although they have a coating that makes the marking difficult to read. We have cleaned, waxed, and polished the table; the revolving mechanism works perfectly, the frame is solid and stable, with a lovely honest patina from over 150 years of use. Some of the spindles are missing; I can restore and replace them at cost. Dimensions: Height 72 cm, Width 72 cm, Depth 72.5 cm (measured at the widest point). This item is available for collection from our warehouses in Wimbledon. Please refer to the very detailed photos that are part of the description to assess the condition. Note that vintage and original items like leather always have a natural patina with cracks, creases, and wear. We recommend regular waxing to preserve the moisture of the leather and advise against prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to avoid drying and discolouration.
