Large ancient vase in glazed terracotta with polychrome jasper decoration, remarkable for the richness of its artisanal work. The piece features a generously curved body, extended by a wide flared neck with a wavy edge and framed by two elegant twisted handles. The whole is covered with a shiny glaze revealing a spectacular marbled decoration in shades of ochre, amber yellow, reddish brown, and deep green. The decoration, achieved through the use of coloured clays or slips under glaze, belongs to the tradition of glazed pottery known as jaspered, each piece naturally possessing a unique design. The drips, colour overlays, and surface irregularities testify to the artisanal nature of the production. Due to its technique, shape, and method of crafting, this piece can be dated to the late 19th or early 20th century, likely between 1880-1920. Its exact origin is not documented, and the piece does not bear an identifiable workshop mark, so it can be assumed to be a piece of popular French work, possibly related to the traditions of regional glazed pottery, particularly from the Alps and Savoy, without formal attribution. In very good condition for its age, with irregularities, firing nuances, and a slight patina inherent to an ancient piece of pottery made by hand. Dimensions: height 30 cm – diameter approximately 20 cm.
