Frame size 16.9 inches X 14.6 inches ( 43cm X 37cm ). Available for sale is this original painting by frederick evans dates from around the turn of the century. The watercolour is presented and supplied in a sympathetic contemporary frame (which is shown in these photographs), mounted using conservation materials and behind glass. This antique painting is in very good condition, commensurate with its age. It wants for nothing and is supplied ready to hang and display. Frederick james mcnamara evans was the son of artist henry mcnamara evans. He studied at the royal institute schools in london and later became part of the newlyn school of artists. He specialised in painting the old fisherfolk of newlyn and its surrounds. His work was exhibited at the royal academy and the new watercolour society. This original watercolour work, now well over a century old, captures the personality and likeness of a cornish fisherman, one of this dying breed of rare men for whom life was hard and dangerous. It is an honest example of evans work. The watercolour is a head and shoulders portrait; the fisherman is of mature years, with character and experience etched into his features. He has a kind, wise expression, a white beard and bushy eyebrows. He wears a brown sou’wester and a red neckerchief.
