Marble and Bronze Fireplace Trim, Art Deco – 1920

Sea-green and siena-yellow marble fireplace trim featuring a triangular prism-shaped clock accompanied by two matching cups. This important clock has an enamelled circular dial bearing the signatures: "josse – st nazaire". Under the dial, a gilded bronze sculpture, representing flowers and foliage, forms a stylized arcade in the lower part. The clock rests on four art deco galettes legs also in gilded bronze. Two laminated cups of sea green marble and yellow sienna marble complete the set. They have an elegant barrel and four small bronze feet. The combination of marble and bronze, its shape, as well as its ornamentation, make this fireplace trim a unique work, faithful to the innovative design of the early twentieth century. ******** Period: 1920.
