Glazed ceramic vase from the 1950s in perfect condition artist: marcello fantoni (1915-2011) born in florence in 1915, marcello fantoni began his artistic career in 1927 at the porta romana art institute. He then participated in the ceramic art course taught by the artistic director of the cantagalli factory, carlo guerrini. Graduating in 1934, he began working in a factory in perugia, then moved to florence and created his own ceramic workshop. His production of serial pieces and unique pieces was successful from 1937 at the decorative arts exhibition in florence, and earned him fame throughout italy and beyond. After the second world war, during which the artist had engaged in the resistance, he resumed his creative activity with fervor, considerably developing the production of his workshop and multiplying collaborations. His success grew in the 1960s and 1970s: his unique sculptures were rooted in a contemporary aesthetic combined with an innovative approach to materials, colors, and glazes, while also borrowing references from antiquity, such as etruscan ceramics. In 1970, fantoni founded a school of ceramic art in florence, where he taught and produced until his death in 2011.
