Kai Kristiansen teak coat rack for Vildbjerg Møbelfabrik

Kai Kristiansen often managed to reduce functionality to a design that needed little more added. This is beautifully reflected in this VM216 wall coat rack, designed in the 1960s for the Danish Vildbjerg Møbelfabrik. The coat rack is built around a wide teak back panel. Two curved wooden supports extend forward to hold the long clothes rail and upper shelf. Below the rail are three small round knobs for coats, bags or accessories. The way the supports, rail and rounded edges merge gives the design its calm appearance. The top shelf offers space for hats, scarves or smaller accessories, while clothes hangers can be hung on the rail without resting directly against the back panel. This coat rack comes with two vintage teak hangers with brass hooks. Their curved shape matches the design of the coat rack. With a width of 90 cm, the VM216 offers plenty of space while remaining compact on the wall. It works well in a hallway, wardrobe or bedroom. The back features the original Vildbjerg Møbelfabrik brand, Made in Denmark. The original mounting points are also present, allowing the coat rack to sit flush against the wall. In our workshop, we checked and treated the teak wood. The warm colour and grain are beautifully visible again while preserving the character of the original material. The coat rack is in very neat vintage condition and ready for immediate use. With purchase, we supply a bottle of maintenance oil and matching instructions to keep the furniture in optimal condition.
