Pair of Vallauris woven ceramic candlesticks

Pair of Art Deco style ceramic candlesticks, fir green rope look, 1950s. In good overall condition apart from two minor paint losses. The candlesticks have the appearance of a rope or twisted cord. The molded and raised rope is oval at the base. The round centerpieces are knotted and the candlesticks are made of a flat, pressed cord. The character of the rope, its flat grooved or domed twisted structure are perfectly realized in the candlestick. The fir green color, the glossy glaze and the contrasting black brushwork create an exciting dialogue with the slightly rustic object.
