Ancient Georgian writing desk circa 1760 with a leather top.

We are delighted to offer for sale this magnificent original English writing desk dating from around 1760, made of oak with a green leather writing surface. The desk is a highly decorative and significant piece from the mid-18th century. The frame is made of English oak that has aged beautifully. This item was sold for over £4500 in 1980 and is being offered today at the same price without adjustment for inflation. The piece has been thoroughly cleaned, waxed, and hand-polished, showing signs of age-related wear that add a particular charm. The handles are antique replacements dating from around 200 years ago. Dimensions: height 103 cm, width 95 cm, depth 52.5 cm. The overall condition is good with wear consistent with age and slight discolouration. The natural patina of the leather includes cracks, creases, and wear; regular waxing is recommended to preserve moisture and prevent discolouration from prolonged sun exposure.
