Portrait in graphite on paper of Albert I, King of the Belgians, signed by Gaston Geleyn and dated 1933. Framed with a Marie-Louise in natural wood. Very good state. Geleyn gaston (brussels, 1892 - grimbergen, 1949) Painter. Lived until the age of six with a great-uncle in Paris. After a short stay in Brussels, he returned to Paris and attended the school of fine arts at Roll and Flaming. After the First World War, he traveled to the United States, India and North Africa. From 1919 to 1929, he was under contract with a Dutch art dealer. First exhibition at the “Giroux” gallery in Brussels in 1933. Predilection for landscapes, seascapes, figures, portraits (King Albert I in particular), still lifes, flowers. Has a workshop in Grimbergen and Ostend. In Ostend, he painted the sea in all its aspects, from the calm silver-gray expanse to the waves raised by the storm. From 1922, he also became known for his imaginary and almost fantastical lunar landscapes. Work at the Brussels Museum. Mentioned in bas I and in “two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists”. Dimensions: with frame: height 60.5 / width 49.5 / thickness 2.5. Without frame (apparent drawing): height 46.5 / width 36.5.
