Large antique gilded and carved wooden frieze from the 19th century.
This ancient carved and gilded wooden cornice is adorned in its centre with the face of a winged cherub and enhanced with leafy scrolls and floral motifs that cascade down the sides. This type of ornamental frieze served as a finishing touch (fable or cornice) for large fireplace mirrors, door frames, headboards, or decorative lintels. The richness of the details, the fluid scrolls, and the presence of the cherub are characteristic elements of the Baroque or late Baroque style, often revived and reproduced in the workshops of Italian and European artisans in the 18th and 19th centuries. The piece is temporarily resting on a lacquered and profiled frame. L 130 cm - H 42 cm - D 14 cm.
