Born in venize in 1905, riccardo scarpa studied drawing at the royal academy of fine arts where he was a student of de loto and carlo lorenzetti. In 1928, scarpa moved to paris where he devoted himself to sculpture. Made of bronze, terracotta or direct cut on marble, his first works are mainly africanist (ethiopian with vase, african woman with jug, egypt). From the 1940s his production is oriented towards animal sculpture (the rooster or the horse in 1944). Riccardo scarpa executed several pieces of zoomorphic furniture mainly in bronze (lamp legs and carved floor lamps). In 1974, the society of french artists awarded him the gold medal for the body of work he exhibited at the salon des artistes français. Riccardo scarpa is also recognized for his work as a medalist with the monnaie de paris.
