Green vitra elephant high chair, designed by charles & ray eames. Made of lime green polypropylene, this elephant has become a true design classic! Intended as a toy for little ones, it can also serve beautifully as a decorative object. The chair can be used both indoors and outdoors. Dimensions: height: 42 cm. Length: 80 cm. Width: 35 cm. In the early 1940s, charles and ray eames spent years developing and refining a technique for bending three-dimensional plywood shapes. Gradually, they designed a range of furniture and sculptures. Of all those original designs, the two-piece elephant proved to be the biggest technical challenge because of its strong multiple curves. The piece therefore never went into series production. The 14-year-old lucia eames, daughter of charles, was given a prototype that was later loaned to an exhibition at the museum of modern art in new york in 1946. Today, this prototype is still owned by the eames family.
