A striking pair of “Lotus” lounge chairs designed by Rob Parry and produced by Gelderland in the Netherlands during the 1960s. The chairs combine a slender chromed metal frame with contrasting black wooden elements. Angular seat and backrest frames create a distinctive floating appearance, while the long black armrests emphasize the clean horizontal lines of the design. Generously proportioned seat and back cushions provide comfortable seating and have been upholstered in a textured deep burgundy red fabric by De Ploeg. The open construction at the rear reveals the horizontal support bars and gives the chairs a light appearance from every angle. The combination of angular forms, contrasting materials and open construction reflects Rob Parry’s clear and functional approach to Dutch modern design.
