Marc Newson armchair

Marc Newson (born 1963) Australia/United Kingdom, circa 1988. Tasmanian pine, stainless steel. 103 × 82 × 70 cm. With this bentwood chair, Newson pushed the boundaries of form and material. Created in his workshop, this first handcrafted piece demonstrates exceptional skill and near-industrial precision. The Tasmanian pine used for this model would be replaced by ash, and the backrest would be more inclined, when Cappellini launched mass production four years later, in 1992.
