A beautiful table lamp in tin in the Swedish Grace style with a rattan shade. Sweden, 1930s-1940s. It features a square and graduated base with a discreet tin frieze. The understated geometry and architectural details place the creation at the transition between Swedish Grace and early Scandinavian functionalism. The Swedish Grace style is the elegant Nordic interpretation of Art Deco and late neoclassicism, and this more reserved design situates the lamp in the late period of Swedish Grace and the initial phase of Scandinavian functionalism around 1935-1945. Tin, used since the 14th century as a common material for tableware, was rediscovered as a decorative material in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly in Scandinavia. This lamp features a beautiful subtle patina on its tin surface and a later woven rattan shade. The lamp is in good condition with a very nice patina on both the tin and the rattan.
