Midcentury Office corner desk by Jules Wabbes, Belgium 1957

Belgian designer jules wabbes passed away more than 40 years ago. He left behind a work that is admired today for its formal simplicity and the beauty of the materials chosen. During his lifetime the designer enjoyed a certain fame, also beyond belgium's borders a silver medal at the milan triennale in 1957; a silver and a gold medal in 1960; awarded at the munich international furniture fair in 1961. Beside being a furniture and interior designer, jules wabbes founded his own production company ‘ mobilier universel ‘ in 1957.this way he could produce on a larger scale and stand closer to his clients. He opened his own gallery space in brussels where clients could not only find his designs, but also those of other designers that wabbes chose with great care. Such as velca, kaufeld and merivaraa. Later in 1959, mobilier universel produced and sold furniture from the us company dunbar and mc guire ( bamboo furniture ). This office desk was one of the items wabbes presented in his showroom. The desk was initially designed for the foncolin building in brussels. Each desk wabbes sold was custom made. The client could choose the size of the desktop and the amount and layout of the drawer units. This corner office desk is made in palisander veneer and exists out of one bigger and one smaller desk. This way you can use them separately as well. Standing in an excellent condition. Size small desk: 66h X 50d X 152l.size large desk: 76h X 75d X 180l.
