Postmodern Moment Dining Table by Niels Gammelgaard for Ikea, 1980s

Moment dining table. Design niels gammelgaard. 1986. The moment table was created as a cousin of the popular moment sofa and guide shelving unit. All of them were based on a completely new technique, in which furniture was made from industrial steel mesh and flat iron bars. Later niels gammelgaard won an excellent swedish design award for the table. Italian design opinion leaders were also positive. Design magazine domus described it as 'un tavolo importante' – a table of importance. Moment was sold as both a dining table and a desk. Originally found in the more trend-conscious ikea tomorrow departments in stockholm, gothenburg and malmö, it was launched more widely in the ikea catalog of 1987. The table is in a good vintage condition with some scratches in the table top as the only signs of wear.
