Kristian Illum Wikkelsø (1919–1999) was a renowned Danish furniture designer and a key figure in the "Danish Modern" movement. His designs are characterized by precision craftsmanship and a unique, organic aesthetic. Wikkelsø began his professional career by training as a cabinetmaker, completing his apprenticeship in 1940. He subsequently studied furniture design under the celebrated designer Kaare Klint at the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen. Following his studies, he worked as an assistant to the prominent designer Jacob Kjær, as well as at the esteemed architectural firm of Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen. In 1954, Wikkelsø established his own design studio. From there, he created numerous iconic pieces of furniture for well-known manufacturers such as Niels Eilersen, CFC Silkeborg, and Mikael Laursen. The rare "Genius" series offered here was designed by him in the early 1960s.
