Ancient peonies painting

Painting on canvas "peonies " 88 X 48. 84 X 43. Signed lower right. Agard charles jean, born 3 january 1866 in savignac-de-nontron (dordogne), died in 1950 in nesles-la-vallée (val d'oise), french, painter of portraits, landscapes, still lifes, flowers, post-impressionist. a fellow of his native department, he studied at the ecole des beaux-arts in paris, under the direction of bonnat. Politically committed, he took an anti-colonialist position, collaborating in the new times with pissaro, luce and sisley. under the advice of puvis de chavannes, he began to exhibit. He was seen, from 1893, at the salon des indépendants, of which he was a member of the committee. Until 1942, he exhibited at the salon of the national society of fine arts, of which he had been a partner since 1914. He also participated in the salon d'automne. the luminous quality of his paintings is sometimes similar to that of pissaro's landscapes, especially in his ranges of soft greens and light reds.
