Oil on canvas. Signed in the bottom right. The scene shows the old farmer sitting and smoking a pipe in the kitchen, in front of the lit fireplace, while he amusedly watches his grandson trying to use the Roman scales. On the floor, baskets of vegetables from their garden are prepared to be sold at the market. The work of the Florentine painter Adolfo Dumini features many similar genre scenes, depicting daily life with liveliness and cheerfulness, and a great wealth of detail. The painting is presented in a contemporary gold frame.
