America Cup pendant lamp by Studio Zebulon for Les Actuels de Lucien Gau, France, circa 1980. A striking pendant lamp that seems to float in space. Designed by Studio Zebulon and edited by Les Actuels de Lucien Gau in France around 1980, the America Cup model takes its name and its silhouette from the world of competitive sailing. The long, tapered shade is sharp like a hull, while the single angled chrome rod and fine steel cable form a triangle that recalls a mast and rigging. The shade is made of two sculpted metal halves with a slim opening between them. A halogen tube sits inside, so light escapes through the slit and spreads softly both upward and downward. When switched on, the lamp becomes a luminous horizon line in the room. It is a bold yet refined piece, ideal above a dining table, in an open living space or in a hallway with generous ceiling height. The piece is signed with the embossed marking inside the shade: "America Cup, Editeur: Les Actuels de Lucien Gau, Création: Zebulon, Puissance maxi: 300 W".
