This antique Chinese wooden console with a top made of assembled planks, peripheral moulding, and curved profile legs is a side table from northern China around 1900. It originates from northern China during the late Qing period, where local wood was traditionally worked using mortise and tenon joinery. The simple consoles with plank tops and curved legs were versatile pieces in domestic spaces in northern China during the Qing Dynasty. Their straightforward construction and balanced proportions made them suitable for both residential interiors and commercial establishments. The top is made of planks joined with mortise and tenon joints, framed by a square-section peripheral moulding. The four legs have a slightly curved profile at the bottom. The structure is solid and unadorned. The wood has a warm patina of natural honey tones, with visible grain on the surface of the top. The wear is consistent with prolonged domestic use. This console is suitable for japandi, wabi-sabi, or minimalist interiors. It functions as an entryway piece, hallway console, or living room side table. Details.
