Cache-pot in Nevers faience signed by Antoine Montagnon, decorated with cherubs. Cache-pot in Nevers faience with polychrome hand-painted decoration, signed by Antoine Montagnon. Its shape features a scalloped edge highlighted with a yellow border. Two handles depict relief masks of female faces, and the piece rests on a pedestal with four small scroll feet. The main decoration is a baroque medallion framed with golden yellow scrolls, in which two putti (cherubs) play among the clouds: one draws his bow towards a target. The deep and intense blue background of Nevers is enhanced with reserves of blue flowers on an orange checkered background, yellow and orange friezes, and a blue scroll frieze on the foot. The colors are vibrant (blue, yellow, orange, green, touches of manganese). It is signed under the base, hand-painted, with the monogram and name Montagnon, a characteristic green bow, and a shape number. Antoine Montagnon (1785-1858) founded a factory in Nevers that continued the tradition of Nivernais faience, particularly in the spirit of the 17th and 18th centuries. This production, known as "style, " was highly appreciated at the end of the 19th century, featuring decorative shaped pieces (cache-pots, vases, planters, dishes) with careful decoration. Height 24.5 cm, Outer diameter 23.5 cm, Inner diameter at the neck 22.5 cm, Width with handles approximately 29 cm. In good condition with signs of use and age / wear of the glaze on the noses of the handles, on the feet / firing bubbles. Careful packaging and fast delivery.
