Folk art painted bridal wardrobe

This is an exceptional folk art bridal armoire from southern Germany (Franconia). The special feature of this example is the "faux" marble painting, which covers the entire armoire in shades of blue and red. This must have been painstaking work at the time. This example dates from 1769 and is still in very good condition considering its age. Some slight signs of use can be seen, but nothing significant. The interior fittings consist of a single clothes rail with coat hooks. In the past, it was customary to give bridal furniture like this as a gift to the couple at a wedding. This furniture was then placed on the farm in a stately room that was only rarely used for high-ranking visitors or special occasions. A wonderful piece of decorative history. The armoire can be transported in two parts and still has the original working lock and key. 189 cm high, 113 cm wide, 48 cm deep.
