This 1960s modernist desk perfectly illustrates the spirit of post-war furniture: functionality, clean lines, and a combination of wood and metal. • Frame: Black wood base, inspired by the Bauhaus aesthetic and the rationality of school/office furniture. • Top and cabinet in light oak with a very understated design, without moldings or ornaments. • Drawers: Two drawers, one of which locks. The integrated black-painted wood handles recall the color contrasts found in the works of Pierre Guariche, André Monpoix, and Jacques Hitier. • Aesthetic balance: The combination of warm wood and black wood perfectly matches the modernist vocabulary of the late 1950s and early 1960s, in line with furniture produced by Minvielle, Meurop, and Steiner. Inspirations. • Bauhaus: The rigor of straight lines and the absence of superfluous decoration. • Ulm School (HfG Ulm, Germany): the rational, modular, and functional side. • Modernist French furniture: Guariche, Monpoix, Motte… with this quest for democratic, accessible, and industrial design, yet always elegant. Some traces of age, including a discreet stain on the top and a missing handle, but the drawer opens easily from the bottom.
