Teak wood coffee table with braided rope, Audoux-Minet 1950

Coffee table attributed to the French duo Adrien Audoux & Frida Minet, major figures in post-war French design. With a honey wood structure, it is enhanced by a central top made of braided vegetable rope, an emblematic material of their work, which they have elevated to the status of a decorative element. Slightly flared tapered legs and a solid wood frame with mitred cuts. Very good vintage condition, with a slight patina of use consistent with its age, contributing to its authenticity. The handcrafted wood and rope work perfectly illustrates the modernist aesthetic of the post-war period, straddling the line between design and modernist craftsmanship. Possible repurposing given its great sturdiness as a large bench.
