Carl Erik Berga was a recluse who lived in a hut in the woods outside Örnsköldsvik, Northern Sweden. His motives were often ports and port pictures. His father was a fisherman and the memories of the time when he was a helper on his father's fishing boat have often been his motive. If it was not fishermen and harbors he painted, it was women's motifs that stuck on his paintings. Often scenes from the stories he heard about sailors who had been out on the great seas. In Örnsköldsvik he went under the name of "The painting Evert Taube" (famous swedish folksong/ballad singer and writer)
