I am selling this lovely earthenware salad bowl from the Saint-Amand factory, signed Lou Basquez. An elegant piece that will add a refined touch to your table. Provenance and Manufacture: This is earthenware produced by the Saint-Amand Manufactures. The partial circular stamp with the crowned heraldic coat of arms (which contains diagonal stripes, representing the coat of arms of the town of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux) surrounded by the inscription "MADE IN FRANCE" is the characteristic signature used by the factory of the Société Amandinoise. Origins and Dating: This specific type of marking, associating the town's coat of arms with the mandatory English mention "Made in France, " was introduced from the early 20th century (mainly around the 1920s to 1950s) for pieces intended particularly for export. Technical Characteristics: The piece is made of ironstone (or opaque porcelain/fine earthenware), a very durable ceramic that was common at that time for everyday tableware. The number 8 visible on the right side corresponds to a worker's mark or a size/mould number in relief.
