Josephine de Beauharnais (1763-1814) was the first wife of Napoleon Bonaparte and became Empress of the French in 1804. Born in Martinique, she made her mark in Paris with her charm, grace, and refined taste. She was one of the great female figures of the Napoleonic era, a symbol of elegance and femininity.
