Cini Boeri for Arflex, modular Strips sofa in terracotta linen, Italy 1968. The iconic Strips sofa is a comfortable and versatile design. This modular sofa features two seating elements, one of which is a lounge with armrest, allowing for a relaxing spot. Reupholstered in high-quality linen in a neutral terracotta colour, this sofa has a warm, luxurious ambience. Each element rests on low-profile legs, making the sofa appear to float. As one of Arflex’s most celebrated designs, the Strips sofa was honoured with the prestigious Compasso d’Oro award, underlining its status as a design classic. Cini Boeri (1924-2020) was one of the first post-war female designers to achieve a prominent role in postmodern furniture design and architecture. In 1951, Boeri graduated from the Polytechnic University of Milan. With a degree in architecture, she briefly interned at the studio of Italian designer Gio Ponti and later collaborated with Marco Zanuso. In 1963, she established the Cini Boeri Architetti studio. Throughout her career, Boeri designed numerous items for Artemide, Gavina, Knoll, Arflex, Fiam, and more. A characteristic element of her furniture designs is the modular sofa systems, such as the well-known ‘Strips’ series. In 2011, Cini Boeri received the Compasso d’Oro Lifetime Achievement award and was named a Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
