Large and magnificent portrait of an aristocrat in a black sackcloth dress girded with a simple cord. With a sweet face and fresh eyes, this young aristocrat has neither jewelry nor sophisticated hairstyle. She seems to have worn this black sackcloth dress either as a penance or to echo a representation of saints or a pious image; piety underlined by an elegant gesture of the hand caressing the cord. Oil painting from the early 18th century, probably of foreign origin of catholic obedience. 18th century frame, gilded with gold leaf, in wood carved with interlacing, scallop shells and flowered spandrels. (some small lacks of use in the gilding). Old relining, some small repainting. Small lacks of use in the frame.
