Secretary with a drop-down front, Napoleon III style, in blackened wood and burl – 19th century.

Elegant Napoleon III period writing desk, made of blackened wood and richly designed, with a contrasting interior of light wood and burl. The facade is framed by two imposing fluted column-like supports, accented with turned elements and finished with sculpted decorations. The upper part is adorned with carved floral motifs and a panel with vertical fluting, giving the whole piece a beautiful architectural presence. The large drop-down front reveals a writing space lined with blue felt, as well as an interior fitted with four small drawers arranged in two rows. The contrast between the blackened wood exterior and the blonde burl interior is particularly decorative. The lower part features three drawers, while the upper part also includes one drawer. Locks and keyholes complete the ensemble. A piece of fine cabinetmaking quality, both elegant and functional, characteristic of the historicist taste of the second half of the 19th century. Condition consistent with its age, with some marks, minor wear, and visible veneer accidents in the photographs. Woodworm holes on one column (treated by our workshops).
