A rare pair of belgian candelabra in silver metal in louis XV style. Stamped with the hallmark of the manufacturer "wiskemann", the swiss cross and the arabic numeral "20" as well as a series of engraved numerals. It is a cast of pure silver plated on an iron core in the manner of sheffield silverware. In 1939, a belgian royal decree required all silver plated articles to be stamped with two hallmarks: one indicating the name of the manufacturer and the other a number indicating the number of grams of pure silver, in this case 20 grams. Bruno wiskemann was a small and renowned goldsmith with boutiques in belgium and switzerland. His work was highly respected and often copied by other goldsmiths. His work is rarely seen and highly sought after. His work dates from the late 19th century until the 1950s, when he sold his business. Belgium. Early 20th century.
